HOW AND WHY DID YOU GET STARTED IN YOUR FIELD OF WORK?
Denis Boyko grew up in this trade. From the time he was old enough to hold a tool, he was on job sites with his father Andriy, spending weekends and summers learning masonry from the ground up. That early apprenticeship shaped the way he approaches every aspect of the business today.
WHAT IS A BIG MISCONCEPTION ABOUT YOUR INDUSTRY?
One thing I wish people understood about the masonry industry is that it’s slowly dying because the best masons are getting older and there aren’t enough young people replacing them. A lot of the most skilled guys in the field today are in their 60s. That creates a huge opportunity for younger people who are willing to learn the trade.
If someone joins a serious company like A.O. Handy Inc. and puts in the time to learn the craft, they’ll always have work. As technology and AI replace more jobs, skilled trades like masonry aren’t going anywhere. The demand will only grow because most people my age don’t see it as an attractive career path.
