POSITION
Manager, Community Impact - The Beacon

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN THERE?
In this role - 6 months; with Advocate Health 15 years and in healthcare in general celebrating 25 years this year.

WHO IS YOUR IDEAL CLIENT?
Community-Based Organizations & Health & Social Services based in Milwaukee

HOW AND WHY DID YOU GET STARTED IN YOUR FIELD OF WORK?
I started my career in healthcare because I wanted to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Beginning in front-line roles at Aurora Health Care, I saw how access and compassion transform outcomes. That experience inspired me to pursue leadership positions where I could drive systemic change—through strategic initiatives, community partnerships, and programs that address social determinants of health. Today, my work at The Beacon and my advocacy with NAMI reflect my commitment to building healthier, more equitable communities.

WHAT IS A BIG MISCONCEPTION ABOUT YOUR INDUSTRY?
One of the most common misconceptions about the healthcare industry is that patient experience is separate from safety and quality of care. In reality, these elements are deeply interconnected. When organizations improve communication, empathy, and overall patient experience, they also see measurable improvements in safety outcomes—such as lower mortality rates, fewer complications, and better rescue rates for critically ill patients. Treating these areas as silos can hinder progress on all fronts.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
What I love most about my job is the chance to roll up my sleeves and build programs that truly matter—initiatives that improve health and well-being for our communities. I thrive on collaboration, learning, and pushing teams to think boldly.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE STARTING IN YOUR INDUSTRY?
My advice for anyone starting out in healthcare is to stay curious and committed to learning—this field changes fast. Keep the mission of patient care at the heart of everything you do, and never underestimate the power of clear communication.

WHAT one BOOK WOULD YOU RECOMMEND?
The First 90 Days by Michael Watkins because it provides a clear, actionable roadmap for leaders transitioning into a new role.

WHAT HOBBIES, SPORTS, PASTIMES DO YOU DO OUTSIDE OF WORK?
Outside of work, I enjoy gardening, swimming in our pool in the summer months, traveling to new destinations, all things Wisconsin sports!d friends.

WHERE WAS YOUR LAST VACATION?
Our last vacation was to Riviera Maya, Mexico to celebrate my husband's 50th Birthday! Can't beat white sand and blue water!

WHEN YOU WERE A KID, WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GREW UP?
I wanted to be a wedding planner. Probably inspired by the movie, The Wedding Planner. Organization is one of my key strengths.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO ADD?
I enjoy program and project management in healthcare because it lets me turn big ideas into real-world impact. I love the complexity and variety of initiatives—from behavioral health integration to community health programs—and the chance to collaborate with incredible teams and healthcare executives. Every project is an opportunity to learn, innovate, and improve outcomes for patients and communities. For me, it’s about making a difference at scale while building partnerships that matter.
